Fade Log - Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 23, 2026
Fade Log lets you track denim items, wear history, washes, progress photos, and optional premium access.
Anonymous usage
- When you first open Fade Log, an anonymous account is created automatically so you can start using the app immediately.
- Anonymous accounts receive a unique identifier used to store and sync your data securely.
- You can upgrade to a full account at any time from Settings without losing any data.
Information we collect
- A unique anonymous identifier generated on first launch.
- Account information you provide if you choose to create a full account, such as your email address and optional display name.
- Denim journal data you create in the app, including item details, logs, notes, and progress photos.
- Device-level preferences such as theme, reminder settings, and onboarding state.
- Purchase and entitlement status returned by the App Store when you use premium features.
How we use information
- To create and secure your anonymous or authenticated account.
- To sync your denim journal and photos to Fade Log's cloud backend.
- To restore your data on the same or a new device.
- To transfer your data from an anonymous account to a full account when you choose to upgrade.
- To deliver optional reminders you enable inside the app.
- To determine premium access purchased through Apple.
Analytics
- Fade Log uses PostHog, a third-party analytics service, to collect anonymous usage data such as screen views, feature interactions, and app lifecycle events.
- Analytics data is linked to your anonymous user identifier but does not include personally identifiable information such as your name or email.
- Analytics are only enabled after you explicitly consent during onboarding. You can revoke consent at any time by deleting your data, which also resets your analytics identifier.
- PostHog processes data on servers located in the United States. For more information, see PostHog's privacy policy at posthog.com/privacy.
- No data is shared with advertisers or sold to third parties.
Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or Switzerland, we process your data under the following legal bases:
- Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): Creating your account, syncing your denim journal, storing your photos, and providing core app functionality.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): Sending optional notifications and collecting anonymous analytics via PostHog. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): Maintaining the security and integrity of the service.
Storage and sharing
- All account data, denim logs, and progress photos are stored in Fade Log's Supabase backend, whether you use an anonymous or a full account.
- A refresh token and your user identifier may be stored in iCloud Key-Value Storage to allow session recovery after reinstalling the app.
- Authentication tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device.
- Notification settings and some appearance preferences are stored locally on your device.
- Fade Log does not sell your personal information and does not use your data for third-party advertising.
- Progress photos stay private to your account unless you explicitly share them using iOS share sheets.
Third-party services
Fade Log relies on the following third-party services to operate:
- Supabase (supabase.com): Cloud database, authentication, and file storage. Your journal data and photos are stored on Supabase infrastructure.
- PostHog (posthog.com): Anonymous analytics, enabled only with your consent.
- Apple App Store / StoreKit: Subscription billing and entitlement verification.
- Apple Sign in with Apple: Optional authentication provider.

- Photo library access is used only when you import progress photos.
- Notifications are optional and can be changed anytime in the app or in iOS Settings.
Retention and deletion
- Your account data is retained for as long as your account exists and you continue to use the app.
- Inactive anonymous accounts and their associated data may be deleted after 3 years of inactivity.
- Analytics data collected by PostHog is retained for 90 days and then automatically deleted.
- You can delete all your data at any time from Settings > Delete All Data. This removes local data, cloud data, and stored photos permanently and immediately.
- If you have a full account, you can also delete your account from Profile > Delete Account & All Data.
- Deleting your data does not automatically cancel App Store subscriptions linked to your Apple Account.
Data portability
- You can request a copy of all your data at any time from Settings > Export My Data. The export is delivered as a ZIP archive containing a JSON file with your structured data and all your progress photos.
